Soft is a slang , collective name for software. In English, the word Soft ware ("programs") arose as a contrast to the concept of Hard ware ("hardware", that is, the equipment that makes up the computer). This opposition is based on the primordial meaning of the words: Hard - "hard", Soft - "soft"
Over time, Software reduced in colloquial English to Soft , and with the development of computers in the late XX century migrated to the Russian language.
